CHAD VANGAALEN = HUMANITARIAN

March 23rd, 2011

Charitable news from the Chad VanGaalen camp. The Calgary-based indie rock homebody has just released a brand new 6-track EP entitled Your Tan Looks Supernatural to help the relief effort in Earthquake/Tsunami/Nuclear fallout-stricken Japan.

Composed of outtakes from his upcoming album Diaper Island, which will see the light of day May 19th via Flemish Eye (Sub Pop in the U.S. of A), 100% of all proceeds from the EP will be forwarded to the Red Cross. You can click over to VanGaalen’s bandcamp site and pick one up for a minimum of five Canadian dollars.

The March 11th, 2011 earthquake off the coast of Japan created a tsunami that wreaked havoc on many highly-populated coastal regions. The death toll continues to rise, but barely communicates the incomprehensible scale of this calamity. Global relief efforts have been swift to assist the Japanese people as they sort through a traumatic event that has left many without the basic necessities such as food and shelter.

On April 1st, VanGaalen is slated to make a rare live appearance in Saskatoon as part of ViveFest with local opener Zombifyus. Though the show is nearly sold out, there are still festival passes available, which will gain you entry into all shows, including VanGaalen’s show at the Christ Church United (provided you show up early enough).

WATCH: GESCHA LOVE PIRATES VIDEO

March 12th, 2011

Exciting news from Saskatoon’s music community:  Gescha (of the Intelligentlemen) has released a brand new video for “Love Pirates,” directed by CFCR’s very own Manny Thomson (aka Downtown Dave, Host of The Swing Shift, Wednesday).

The undeniably catchy track appears on his forthcoming album Crayon Politics, available April 26th. The album was produced by the incredible team of Factor and Muneshine, and features many guest appearances – Kay the Aquanaut, Moka Only and AWOL One to name a few.

The video was shot in St. James Parish right here in Saskatoon, using local talent as the congregation. CFCR’s Chad Reynolds (The Afternoon Buzz, Wednesday) even appears as the dancing altar server! Just like real church!
