PHOTOS: FM-PHASIS FEST WEEKEND #2

September 25th, 2012

Our second weekend of locally-centred FM-Phasis fundraiser shows was once again all the way off the hook. For this particular weekend, we teamed up with the boys at Ominocity to present a couple of humdingers. Friday night, we hosted the sweet, jangling tones of Foggy Notions, the thick, assaulting tones Shooting Guns and the riffingly riffing tones of special late-editions Black Hell Oil. Check out photos by Program Director Jay “Sir Snaps-a-lot” Allen, below:

On Saturday, Amigos was home to a very different show than Friday. We called up some of our favourite local electronic artists and asked them to throw together a dance party of grand proportions… and that’s just what they did. The show featured the beats, beeps and booty-shakers of economics, Form, Dislexik and Quadrant Khan (who threw out one of his intense live sets). Photos below:

We’ve got one more weekend of live shows to go, and this time, local screen-printing wizards Hardpressed Print Studio is our partner in presentation. The Moas, Bend Sinister (one of only two non-local acts playing FM-Phasis Fest 2012) and Pandas In Japan will destroy Friday, and SAVS, The Wizards and Pearson are throwing down on Saturday for our big FM-Phasis Wrap-up Party! To continue with the theme, these shows are both at Amigos and are each only FIVE DOLLARS to get in. Be there and support community radio in Saskatoon! September 16th, 2012

The first of three weekends of music for CFCR’s FM-Phasis Fest is in the books, with a pair of really dandy shows at Amigos.

As you may have heard, this year we’re really focusing on local bands, and we got some really great lineups for the shows. On Friday, we kicked the funding drive off in all kinds of style with The Seahags, Brucey Ramone (a one-man Ramones cover band), Ride Til Dawn and The Shakey Elevators (Shakey Wilson). We had a really good turn-out and everyone had a great time! Check out some pics from the night:

Saturday featured three more local bands in the form of Little Criminals, Fisticuffs and Gunner & Smith. There were very many excellent vocal harmonies to be had this night! Despite there being a tonne of shows going on around Broadway, the turnout for the show was really solid and the bands brought a great amount of energy to the stage. Check out the photographic evidence:

Thanks to everyone who made it out to one or both of our shows on weekend #1 of FM-Phasis Fest 2012. We’ve got another couple doozies planned next weekend, with Shooting Guns and Foggy Notions on Friday, and a bonafied dance party extravaganza on Saturday with a live set from Quadrant Khan, as well as sets by Dyslexic, Form and Economics. Both these shows are at Amigos, and both cost only FIVE BUCKS EACH! See you there!

Also, don’t forget to get your pledge in to CFCR today. CFCR celebrated the the Back-to-School season as well as the imminent start to our annual fundraising drive FM-Phasis with a real humdinger of a show at Amigos, featuring Lethbridge/Calgary punks Fist City, local rapscallions Mondo Trasho and CFCR’s very own Kaley & Matt from Thursday night program Way Out West providing a soundtrack for the evening.

CFCR Program Director and occasional camera slinger Jay Allen was on-hand to shoot a few photos of the bands, so check that action out below:

Be sure to check out the rest of CFCR’s FM-Phasis Fest shows, starting with a kick-off bash this weekend at Amigos. All fundraiser shows are only FIVE BUCKS, so it’s easy to make it out to them all! For the full schedule, click here. And remember, these shows all centre around CFCR’s annual fundraising drive, FM-Phasis, which runs from September 15-28. When you donate, you can get some great instant prizes (we have 100s of gift certificates, physcial prizes and CDs to choose from!), as well, you may be entered into a veritable cavalcade of Grand Prize and Early Bird Prize draws.
