Remember that Sesame Street song, “These are the people in your neighbourhood?”  Well, here’s a new feature about the people at your community radio station!  You like to party, and we like to party, so why don’t we party together?  Join us for...

GET TO KNOW A CFCR VOLUNTEER!
This time, we get to know Erica Maier, who hosts the Tuesday 8-10am Green Eggs & Ham every other week! Apart from hosting, Erica has also been involved with other CFCR volunteer pursuits, notably the 2013 International Women's Day fundraiser, where Erica and her sisters Lenore and Julie (also CFCR hosts) supplied some good vibes as the event's house DJs!

Erica Maier CROPHow did you first come to learn about CFCR?
I first learned about CFCR when I was in grade seven or eight and started getting really tired of repetitive radio stations. My older brother and his friends listened to CFCR driving to school and I think he was the first to introduce me.

Why do you volunteer? Why is CFCR important to the community?
I volunteer because I think CFCR allows for much more diversity on air, including multiculturalism, Canadian content, and conversation that is not on mainstream radio stations. It feels much more like the way radio used to be when my parents where younger -- radio shouldn't just be about pop stars.

What's the craziest thing that's happened to you on the air?
My computer crashed on air once, followed by a lot of dead air and bad story telling until I found something (else) to play, haha.

What's your favourite CFCR show(s)?
TV Party Tonight (Saturdays, 10pm-12am) and Hot Buttered Soul (Monday-Friday, 12-1pm).

Who is your favourite local band? Non-local band?
My favourite local band would be Caves or Pirate Fridays. My favourite non-local band would probably be Sonny & the Sunsets or Angel Olsen.

Aside from radio, what else do you like to do?
Hiking, biking, eating nachos.

What's your favourite/least favourite pizza topping?
I love love love pineapples. I hate sausage on my pizza.

What's the best book you've read/movie you've seen recently?
I finally saw O Brother, Where Art Thou? recently and that movie rules.

Now, enjoy a short playlist of picks by Erica, and check out her show every other Tuesday from 8-10am on Green Eggs & Ham! Usually, Erica hosts every other week, but this month she's doing two in a row! You can catch her on the air this month on Tuesday, December 16th and 23rd for a bucket-load of musical goodness.

Hookworms - "On Leaving"

Kane's Cousins - "Take Your Love and Shove It"

Slow Magic - "Toddler Tiger"

Compay Segundo - "Guantanamera"
