Remember that Sesame Street song, “These are the people in your neighbourhood?” Well, here’s a new feature about the people at your community radio station!  You like to party, and we like to party, so why don’t we party together?  Join us for...

GET TO KNOW A CFCR VOLUNTEER!

This time, we tip our caps to volunteer host Patricia Pavey. Patricia currently hosts the Wednesday weekly edition of The Swing Shift, but listeners might remember her from her days hosting her world music show Planet Beat, which first aired back in August of 1995. Patricia has also been a great help filling in on various other programs, including So Many Roads, The Classical Connection and other Swing Shift spots, and she chips in around the office by refiling and reorganizing our CD library and putting up event posters around town.

How did you first come to learn about CFCR?

Just channel-surfing one afternoon, I came across "The Sounds of Scotland" and decided to see what else was on offer.

Why do you volunteer? Why is CFCR important to the community?

Started initially because there was no other "World Music" show.  CFCR gives a platform to LOCAL hosts, LOCAL music and LOCAL information, and allows individuality in programming.

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you on the air?

After making fun of another host (who'd said "60% chance of flowers"), I announced the temperature with "Wind Children" (instead of the "Wind Chill")...

What’s your favourite CFCR show(s)?

Classical Connection; Swing Shift; Sounds of Scotland

Who is your favourite local band? Non-local band?

Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra; Chris Barber Jazz Band; Whiskey Jerks

Aside from radio, what else do you like to do?

Zentangle; photography; reading; listening to music; walking; having lunch with friends.

What’s your favourite/least favourite pizza topping?

Favourites: Cheese; mushrooms

What’s the best book you’ve read/movie you’ve seen recently?

Portrait In Sepia by Isabel Allende (book); What Happened, Miss Simone? (Movie)

Here's a short playlist curated by Patricia, starting with the first song she ever played on CFCR's airwaves in 1995:

Ladysmith Black Mambazo - "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"

Chris Barber Jazz Band ft. Monty Sunshine - "Petite Fleur"

Johnny Clegg ft. Nelson Mandela - "Asimbonanga"

Ludovico Einaudi - "Taranta Project"
