Local murder balladeers The Deep Dark Woods had a busy 2010, touring all over North America while hard at work writing and recording the follow-up to their highly acclaimed 2009 album Winter Hours.

This fall, the boys headed south to play the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in the border town of Bristol, Virgina/Tennessee. On their way back north, they stopped in with the folks at HearYa.com in Chicago to record some tracks for their "Under the Covers" series.

"They have reviewed all three of our albums and have invited us to play at both their SXSW parties in '09 and '10 in Austin, TX," said Deep Dark Woods drummer Lucas Goetz, via email. "They have made friends with a great local recording studio called Shirk Music & Sound and have so far posted 82 live sessions performed by bands they love, complete with quality audio and video."

The Woods layed down a total of five covers for HearYa, including traditional tunes "Peggy O" and "Make Me A Pallet On Your Floor," Elizabeth Cotton's "Oh Babe It Ain't No Lie," "Falling Down Blues" by Furry Lewis and a great rendition of Bruce Springsteen's blue collar anthem "Factory."

HearYa also posted videos for three of the aforementioned cover songs, which are available at their website. Check them out below:
