CAPTAIN JUMPS SHIP, PIRATE RADIO SAILS ON

Jun 13, 2011

Last Thursday was the last episode of Pirate Radio with The Captain, Brian Penner. After 23 years of hosting at CFCR, The Captain has decided to hang up his eye patch, stepping back from his hosting duties, though you still may catch him filling in here and there.

But fret not, Pirate Radio has a new voice in "First Mate" The Jay of Spades, who has left his post at Faster, Leonard Cohen, Die! Die! to take over the good Pirate ship. Mr. of Spades will lead you on a musical journey of his own, exploring everything from rock to country to jazz, from folk to punk to blues. Although it won't all be Canadian, expect to hear a healthy portion of homegrown tunes.

This hosting change opened up the slot from 10-11pm on Thursdays, which will be taken over by former RCMP host Kaley Evans. Kaley's show will be titled Strings of Nashville and will work to make the connections between all your favourite songs. How many degrees separate the music of Kermit the Frog from JJ Cale? Tune in and you just might find out.
