FEMFEST! 2018 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY FUNDRAISER

Feb 7, 2018

CFCR Saskatoon Community Radio and Grey Records are very proud to present FEMFEST! 2018, an annual International Women's Day Fundraiser held at Amigos Cantina! The evening will be a jam packed showcase & celebration of female-identified musicians (and their feminist allies) in the Saskatoon (and Canadian) music scene.

Proceeds from the night will be split between two local organizations in great need of support.

- Iskwewuk E-wichiwitochik (Women Walking Together), a Saskatoon organization that provides support networks for the families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in Saskatchewan

- Saskatoon Mothers' Centre, a safe space where mothers and their children can gather in a warm and welcoming environment. It is open to all women of all ages, classes, backgrounds and nationalities. Women and their children are welcome from all areas of Saskatoon, including new residents and recent immigrants.

FEMFEST! 2018 will feature spectacular musical performances by:

Wares (Edmonton, AB)
A musical project engineered by Edmonton musician Cassia Hardy. From teeth rattling electric convulsions to barely-there, reverb drenched refrains, the musical inflections explored by Wares are as varied as they are enthralling.

T-Rhyme (Saskatoon, SK)
With souled-out backbeats and smooth flows, T-Rhyme's music wouldn't sound out of place on 1990s MTV or MuchMusic alongside Salt-N-Pepa or De La Soul. For over a decade she's been brandishing her skills with the mic and using the stage as a platform to empower young Indigenous women. As she says it, “I ain’t a new school rapper. I’m a veteran poet.”

Lip Slackers (Saskatoon, SK)
Lip Slackers are when a sad folker and a punk rocker get together with a drummer who studies female gladiators. They are a newly formed band from Saskatoon, featuring a member of Chunder Buffet and Rachel Elizabeth. Get moody with them!

Taylor Jade (Saskatoon, SK)
"Dark Folk" from depths of Saskatoon, fresh off the heels of her brand new record "Dreamy Is The Night".

Julie Maier (of The Garrys & CFCR) and DJ Brenda Machine will be spinning music throughout the night, and prepare yourselves for the comedic stylings of our host - Jenny Ryan of the LadyBits Improv Comedy Collective. Are you ready to laugh?!?!
