Ori Ara Emi-A Poetry Exhibition
Peace Akintade, Saskatchewan Poet Laureate, is an African-Canadian award-winning interdisciplinary
poet, public speaker, chorus-poem playwright, and thespian, currently residing in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan.
Ori Ara Emi began in 2024 as a fourteen-hour poetic meditation, where Peace sat and wrote without food,
water or a break. After reaping the benefits of her manic obsession, she decided to broaden the thesis. The
ultimate draft was created during a BamSaskatoon Residency in April 2024, where Peace conducted three
sixteen-hour poetic meditations, inviting the audience to bring food and water. From her writings, she
created visual art pieces, films, and poetry chapbooks.
Ori Ara Emi (My Head, My Body, My Soul)- Poetry Exhibition is the realization/ result of her first year
as Saskatchewan Poet Laureate. The exhibition explores the impact that engaging with the community has
on the poet. The exhibition celebrates Yoruba artistry and storytelling while addressing the urgent need
for poetry and community-centred expression in today’s world. The exhibition is Ori, communal
responsibility.
