25th Street bringing theatre magic to kids
What If follows Nicky, a young girl who has thousands of “what if’s” running through her mind every day. These fears keep her hidden away in the school sick room avoiding her classmates, that is until Milo comes barreling into her life. Director Anita Smith says this tale of unlikely friendship and courage to face your fears will speak to many kids in the audience.
“Childhood anxiety rates are on the rise. Saskatchewan has some of the highest rates in the country,” says Smith. “What If reaches out to young people who are experiencing anxiety with understanding and compassion. It’s also for the people in their lives that can help them cope, helping kids and adults see the world through a different perspective.”
After each show the cast and crew will stick around for workshops with the students in a variety of subjects like character development, voice, movement, and storytelling. 25th Street believes this tour is a way to engage the next generation of theatre artists and theatre lovers.
At the end of the tour, the team will return to Saskatoon for a pair of public performances April 3rd and 4th at Nutrien Wonderhub. Those tickets are on sale now.
