CFCR Community Connect – Empty Arms Perinatal Loss Services

,

Welcome to CFCR Community Connect – where we help to connect you with local community organizations in Saskatoon.

Empty Arms Perinatal Loss Services is the Community Connect feature for April 2026!

About

Empty Arms is a small organization making a big difference in the lives of families experiencing baby and child loss. Empty Arms is available on-call 24/7, 365 days per year, free of charge to provide in-hospital supports with a Certified Bereavement Companion and Professional Photographer for grieving families.

Mission & Vision: To support those experiencing the loss of a child from pregnancy through early childhood. We envision a community where those who experience the loss of a child are honoured and supported.

Empty Arms offer in-hospital support for families, giving them the opportunity to slow down time with their little one for their first and/or final moments. They serve families who are experiencing pregnancy or the loss of a child up to six years old. Services can include a peaceful bath for their little one for the first and last time, clothing for babies of all sizes, provision of handprints/footprints and clay impressions of hands/feet, professional photography, memorial jewelry, and more. In addition to this, they support families long-term with regular check-ins, and families often join their Facebook support groups and attend their hosted support groups in-person and via Zoom.

When asked “What is something that you wish more people knew about your organization?”, this was their response:
That we are here for loss parents, as loss parents, in any capacity that they need within our service offering, in any stage of their loss (before/during/after/long after)… Know that our services are available for you to pick from, to give you choice in a time where things feel the rug has been pulled from under you. Loss is incredibly hard in knowing how to use this time with our little ones. We are here to honour families’ choices and give them a softer landing in an incredibly uncomfortable situation. There’s no right way to do this, and we are here to walk with you through it.

How Can I Support Empty Arms?

One of the best ways to support Empty Arms is to spread information about their organization. If you’re part of a related business, you are welcome to pick up pamphlets for display. It is important for families to know about Empty Arms before they need them, so they can establish connections to their supports earlier in their experiences.

You can apply to become a peer support volunteer here. Connecting with another person who has lived through a similar life-changing event can be a vital link for someone struggling with their own situation. A supportive peer can model hope, encourage healing, and help others integrate their new life circumstances. Peer support is based on key principles of respect, connection, mutual agreement, and empathy.

There are a handful of volunteers who knit blankets for babies of all sizes, who create sewn outfits for micropreemies, or who help at events.

People are welcome to donate to and/or attend their events. A Night to Remember is their annual dinner and dessert auction, and each fall they host their No Foot Too Small Awareness Walk. Visit this page to learn more about their 2026 A Night to Remember coming up on May 22.

You can also visit www.emptyarmspls.com/donatenow to donate any amount you’d like, to support a family in need of services.
