THE 2016 HOMELESSNESS RADIO MARATHON: FEB 23-24

Feb 16, 2016

The annual Homelessness Radio Marathon returns on February 23rd-24th, broadcasting stories and information to raise awareness about Homelessness in Canada.

The Marathon began in 1998 in Geneva, New York, and the concept moved north to Canada 14 years ago with CKUT 90.3FM in Montreal as the host station. In recent years, the host station has changed with each installment, with CIVL 101.7FM at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, BC taking the reins this year.

The marathon will feature a variety of segments produced by campus and community radio stations across Canada. CFCR is proud to contribute content to this year's marathon, with our very own USSU On The Air and Civically Speaking to air segments live on CIVL from 9:30-10:30pm Saskatoon time (7:30-8:30pm Pacific Standard Time), highlighting important issues on homelessness from right here in our community and the province of Saskatchewan.

CFCR 90.5FM will also be broadcasting the marathon live, via CIVL, from 1am (Saskatoon Time) on the night of Tuesday, February 23rd (early morning of Wednesday, Feburary 24th), until 6am. Our regular Overnighter program will be pre-empted on this day.

To stream the full marathon, visit CIVL's website. For inquiries, please contact CFCR Program Director Jay Allen at pd@cfcr.ca.

We pay our gratitude to the First Nations and Métis people who have called this ancestral land home for generations, and whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our community. On a foundation of reconciliation, recognition, and respect, CFCR is committed to reaffirming relationships with one another, and to establishing new ones.
